In the Northeast of Vietnam, we are building a new sanctuary for up to 100 former bile bears called BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh.

BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh will enable the Vietnamese authorities to carry its operation to end bile bear farming more effectively, as confiscated bears can be transferred to a species-appropriate home.

The launch of the first phase of the BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh began in December 2016 and is expected to be completed in December 2017. As of 2018, the BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh will also open its doors to visitors.

The first construction phase covers 3.6 ha and offers suitable accommodation for up to 44 bile bears. Initially, four large outdoor enclosures will be constructed that will house between 10 to 14 animals each, followed by 2 bear houses with indoor boxes for the bears. There will also be a quarantine and a veterinary station, as well as a bear kitchen and an administrative building.

The first bile bears will be able to be transferred in early spring 2018.

After completion of the second construction phase, the entire site will cover an area of 10 hectares. In total, up to 100 former bile bears will be able to recover from the hardships of their lives in the natural environment BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh offers.
