New Stray Animal Care project starts in Ploiesti, Romania
FOUR PAWS embarks on a new stray animal project in the Romanian town of Ploiesti – one of the largest in the country, located not far from the capital Bucharest – on January 19, 2009. The municipality has requested the help of FOUR PAWS. Over the next month the team will castrate, supply for and vaccinate as many stray dogs and cats as possible. The killing of the animals by the authorities is becoming legally impossible through this.
A small delegation of the FOUR PAWS team is arriving a few days early in Ploiesti – as in all larger towns – in order to begin with the counting of the dogs and prepare informing the 300.000 plus citizens of the municipality about the project. On January 20, a joint press conference with the mayor’s office will be held, for which numerous newspapers, radio and TV stations have signed up for.
The prospect of lasting improvements The fact that city councils increasingly call on FOUR PAWS on their own initiative shows how well-known the project is in Romania by now. For the countless strays of a town such as Ploiesti this is good news. If the project continues to receive such solid support, better times have started to dawn for the animals on the streets of Eastern Europe at last.
