December 23rd, 2009 FOUR PAWS wishes you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
The FOUR PAWS staff wishes all of you joyful holidays and a good start into the new decade!
Thanks to your support FOUR PAWS was able to continue to help numerous animals in 2009. Big animal welfare projects such as Stray Animal Care could be maintained and extended, just as the dedicated campaigns all over Europe.
In many countries FOUR PAWS fought for a consistent improvement of the living conditions for animals: particularly the campaigns promoting a ban of wild animals in circuses, as much as the efforts against the production of Fois Gras and rabbit meat, live feather plucking, animal testing and puppy trade attracted attention.
As for the projects, 2009 became a seamless continuation of the success of the previous year. 13 afflicted lions from Austria, Romania and the Netherlands were brought to the South African sanctuary LIONSROCK. Under ideal conditions, FOUR PAWS cares for game cats that are left without a future in Europe. Also the bear parks‘ population grew: Katja and Ida are the names of the new inhabitants of BÄRENWALD Müritz. At DANCING BEAR PARK Belitsa there are three new arrivals that could be saved from disastrous keeping conditions.
New land was the key issue in the cooperation with the Borneo Orang-Utan Survival Foundation (BOS). FOUR PAWS experts are currently analysing the suitability of an enormous and intact area of primeval forest which is eligible for releasing the many orang utan orphans into the wild which each year are being raised and prepared for a life in freedom by FOUR PAWS. At the BEAR ORPHANAGE Hargitha seven young bears were released this summer - by autumn five new foundlings had to be taken in. But the work for the wellbeing of animals will continue indefatigably.
We would be glad if you continued to accompany us in 2010 and wish you, with all our hearts, a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
Your FOUR PAWS team
